RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. ELEMENTARY LEVEL

This programme is intended for all categories of people, regardless of age, without presenting requirements for the education level, who wish to acquire skills in the study of Russian as a foreign language.

The educational aim of the programme is mastery by foreign students of the Russian language system for communication in a Russian language environment.

Training objectives
1. In reading - development of skills for reading of informational and publicist, social and cultural or social texts for learning, briefing and abstract goals;
2. In writing - mastery of basic types of written speech in scientific and official business styles;
3. In listening - development of linguistic, communicative and sociocultural competences in spoken, publicist and scientific styles of speech helping adequate perception of information close to that of native speakers;
4. In speaking - development of a level of sociolinguistic, communicative and discursive competences predetermining the optimal use of linguistic means in various spheres of communication.


STRUCTURE OF THE MODULE

Phonetics. Graphics
  • Syntagmatic division. Types of intonation constructions
  • IC -1 (complete statement), IC -2 (special question, addressing, request). IC -3 (general question), IC-4 (comparative question with "and" conjunction). IC -5 (judgement)
Word Formation and Morphology
  • Composition of word. Recognition of minimum number of word-forming models: male teacher - female teacher; male foreigner - female foreigner; urban; to read - to have read; to be going - to go - to have gone; Russian - in Russian. Main alternations of sounds in the root in forms of verbs of I and II conjugation (in a minimal set of verbs)
  • Noun. Animate and inanimate nouns. Genus and number of nouns
  • Case system of nouns. Formation of forms; meaning and use of cases. Basic meanings of cases
  • Genitive case with prepositions. Starting point of movement (from, out); a person who owns something (at)
  • Dative case with prepositions. Person as destination of movement (to)
  • Accusative case with prepositions. Direction of movement (in, on); time (hour, day of the week) (in)
  • Instrumental case with prepositions. Compatibility; definition
  • Prepositional case with a preposition. Object of speech, thoughts; place (in / on); means of transport(on)
  • Pronoun. Possessive (mine, yours...), identifying (each) and negative (none, nothing) pronouns
  • Adjective. Familiarization with the case system of complete adjectives. Short adjectives in a limited set (happy, busy, must, sick)
  • Verb. The imperative of familiar verbs (read, speak). Verb government (I am watching TV, I am talking with my brother). Transitive and intransitive verbs (met the brother, I study at school). Verbs of motion without prefixes and with prefixes (po-, pri-) - to be going, to go, to be drive, to drive, to come, to have come.
  • Numeral.  Ordinal numerals (first, second, etc.) in nominative case
  • Adverb. Predicative adverbs (allowed, forbidden) in limited structures, interrogative adverbs (how, when, where, where, where from)
  • Service parts of speech. Conjunctions and conjunction words (and, or, but, not only..., but..., because, therefore, what, where, where to, which, etc.), the following particles: not, even
Syntax
  • Ways of expressing logical-semantic relations in sentence. Object relations (case and preposition and case constructions of nouns). Attribute relations: common definition, inconsistent definition, space relations (preposition and case constructions of nouns, adverbs), time relations (adverbs), target relations (combination of personal form of verb with inf.)
  • Types of complex sentence. Compound sentences with the following conjunctions: and, but, but, or; not only but.... Complex sentences, types of subordinate clauses with different conjunctions and conjunction words: explanatory (what, in order to, who, how, which, whose, where, where to, where from); definitive (which) in a limited scope; of time (when); cause-and-effect (because)
Lexico-Grammatical Workshop
Lexical units, audio, video and text material of monological and dialogical nature of various functional styles of speech, related to the following topics: "My work day", "Free time, rest, interests"
